in the sky island I want to think nami response was different because she might been the one who understood the pain luffy was in the most and she was upset that he was trying to take it all by himself even tho he always there for them and like I think they felt his pain but I feel that nami action were more reaching idk just word for thought

Not gonna lie I’ve always thought that Nami and Luffy as a team absolutely NEED each other and complete who they are as expertly explained in this video. Nami is basically Luffy’s manager 🤣

I totally agree with everything you said, especially that line about how they are probably the most different and that the others are likely on a more similar wavelength with Luffy than Nami is, not that this is a bad thing. I was actually reflecting on that lately, after Whole Cake and while watching a lot of OP analyses videos. I always thought this but I lately reiterated the idea that to me, Nami is, among many things but arguably most importantly, a guide for Luffy.

Not just in the literal sense as the navigator, but in life generally. Luffy's generally pretty naive but also legitimately and understandably ignorant of the world generally and the rest of the world socially. It's often Nami correcting Luffy's potentially-offensive brash comments, or reminding him that he should be careful in a new place because it's unfamiliar, or giving him a lecture about spending money wisely or maybe explaining a person's behavior or some other social thing that Luffy didn't understand.

This also extends to the rest of the crew as well — she's often making big decisions for the crew, designating chores or roles when they enter a new island (ie they need to go shopping for supplies, she decides who gets what), designates their allowance of course, and they turn to her as the utmost authority on most things (anything to do with fighting goes to Luffy, and he gets first choice on where to go next, of course).

It's almost parental or like she's everyone's older sister (and then Robin is hers — we haven't seen much post timeskip but I loved how Nami looked up to her), but it's something I really appreciate Oda for developing. A lot of the stuff she deals with is the ordinary, mundane acts of keeping shit together, but it serves to deepen and diversify the relationships she has with the crew, including Luffy.

It's for this reason, perhaps just as equally as her navigation skills, that makes her the most versatile and pragmatically valuable member of the crew. If I had to pick one straw hat to be deserted with somewhere for whatever reason, and have to travel with them, she'd probably be my first choice.

She can literally get you from place to place via navigation, a skill none of the others have, period, (Luffy and Zoro traveled around before her by luck and resilience, basically) so there's that; but she can also keep you decently fed (and prevent scurvy with her tangerines); probably knows first aid (can't replace a doctor but that's better than nothing), is a decent fighter; has a much-needed sense of self-preservation which is really important, because sometimes there are better options than standing and fighting, thanks; is decently well-read and good about researching new things; and could probably manage finances well enough to help them get boats repaired or get a new one entirely when necessary.

She's invaluable to the crew and just seeing how that is portrayed in various ways like everyone's trust in her is really heartwarming. She's a really great character, and I appreciate the layers Oda has given her, even while I think he could do even more with her.

I hate it when fanboys just hate Nami because of Hancock. It's not even about shipping. Ugh. You do realize without her the monster trio would just attack without thinking. She supervised the ship and look out for everyone like a big sister.

Nami does a very good job in keeping Luffy down to earth and see things realistically. However, Luffy shows Nami that you have to do the impossible to achieve your dreams.
